There were a few more things I had wanted to say at Carol Anne’s vigil, but I would have cried and Hannah was already crying. Matt addressed a related thought when he asked all of us to help Lauren get to know her grandmother.
Hannah, I know that your Gramma is very sad that she won’t be there in body for many important days in your life. First Communion, Confirmation, starting high school, graduating from high school, and your many upcoming birthdays are all days for which Gramma would have dropped everything to be there. We will all remember how much she loved all of us. Gramma will be there in your heart and she will be proudly watching over you for all of your special days.
Ava said it beautifully on the way in to church last week: “Isn’t it great that we can go to church with Gramma in our hearts?” Ava is right: we can all go everywhere with Carol Anne in our hearts.
